"with
"The Dinner Party," directed with much vigor and little subtlety
by John Rando, Mr. Simon is playing the same game with a straight, even
sorrowful face. Not that this precludes fusillades of those familiar Simon
one-liners, which keep erupting even after you have expected them to stop,
like the last kernels in a pan of popcorn."

""The
Full Monty," the hearty singing adaptation of the popular English film
about a motley male troupe of amateur strippers, opened last night in a blaze of
pure mass appeal. The show calculatedly pushes as many buttons as an elevator
operator, but it mercifully doesn't hammer at them. With a winning, ear-catching
pop score by David Yazbek and a lively gallery of performers who seem truly in
love with the people they're playing, "The Full Monty" is that rare
aggressive crowd pleaser that you don't have to apologize for liking."

The Lion King
This adaptation of the animated Disney film was the winner of six
Tony awards in 1998 including Best Musical, Choreography and
Direction. Directed by Julie Taymor, this production uses puppetry,
costumes and a cast of 46 to tell the story of Simba, the baby lion that
grows up to be king of the jungle. It’s terrific for children and parents
alike. The quality of the play took both audience and critics by surprise.
This is not merely a camped-up version of the movie, but rather a very
dramatic and spellbinding interpretation of the Disney film that stands
alone.
